Effortless Skirt

I'll admit I'm cheating a little, this is my outfit from last weekend but I thought I should still share it. I wore a black high waisted skirt from Zara which I got on sale many years ago. It's my favorite skirt for any occasion really because its versatile. You can wear a tucked in tee with a cardigan or jean jacket for a relaxed day, or you can wear a cute blouse for a more fancy casual outfit.

My shirt is from Forever 21 and it was a great deal for around $13. It also comes in two more colors. Forever 21 has a lot of long sleeve shirts right now in that price range so it's a great deal. My purse is from Aldo which I also bought on sale for $25. Aldo has the cutest purses but I usually wait to catch a sale because they're pricey. Here is a quick look at other tops  you could wear with a versatile plain skirt and some purses simliar to mine. The shirt I'm wearing above is also below, you can click on the pictures to be directed to the website.

  1. AssalamAlaikum,

Hani, I love your style, its chic and effortless at the same time.I was wondering, since you wear a lot of skirts, do you wear some kind of a slip underneath them.I'm asking this because everytime I buy a skirt or a maxi dress, they just end up hanging in my closet unworn. They look fine when I try them on in the fitting room at the store but once I try them on at home they turn out to be see through. So, if you can advise me on what to wear underneath and where can I get them (and also if I'll be able to wear it in the Texas heat) I would really appreciate it.

    1. WaAlaikumAsalam!

Thank you so much for all the support and kind words. So here are a few answers to your question: the skirt I'm wearing in this post has its own lining so it isn't necessary for me to wear a lining or slip which is why I love it. I do however share your frustration with other skirts and dresses that I have. I have however recently found a solution! I once bought a dress from forever 21 that had a black lining on the inside and I decided to wear that lining under any dress that was see through. It is nylon material and here is one similar to it but it is expensive to buy from this website:

Here is a cheaper option you could try from amazon:

Department stores usually have a lot of slips you can check out this short dress one:

Before I discovered my slip, I would wear leggings and a tank top underneath my dress or skirt. It does get hot though especially in the summer and especially if you're in Texas. So I suggest you try the amazon dress and if you're unhappy with it still try looking in department stores and going home and trying on what you bought with your dresses/skirts. If you are handy with a sewing machine you could even go buy nylon material and look for a plain dress pattern and cut & sew it up!

Please let me know if that helps you or not, and if there is anything else I can help you with! :)
