Sofreh 7 Sin - Persian New Year Table

For the new year, we set up a 'sofreh' or table, which is called the 7 sin, literally translated as the 7 S's. I have included a video below which can go into further explanation of why we set it up and what it symbolizes.. I figured watching a video would be easier than reading a long explanation!

This year for the Persian new year, we had some friends over and of course ate a ton of persian food! The traditional meal for the new year is fish with a specific Persian rice that is green because of all the herbs. We didn't go the traditional route this year, we just made the food we wanted to eat! We had khoreshte bademjoon, which is a stew with eggplant and chicken as well as fesenjoon which is a walnut, chicken and pomegranate stew. Both these dishes are eaten with white rice. On the side we had potato salad and my moms special coleslaw salad. Needless to say, we were all stuffed by the end of the night.
