Hijab in the Corporate World

Recently I've been getting some questions regarding what to wear in the corporate business world as a Hijabi. For those of you who are just joining my blog for the first time, I work at PricewaterhouseCoopers a worldwide accounting firm and the attire in the office is business casual. My OOTD (outfit of the day) posts are usually me on my way out to work in the morning, however I realize that most of my outfits consist of skinny bottoms or boots which technically are more relaxed on the traditional business casual attire. I wanted to give you some ideas on how to wear the 'traditional' business casual attire in the office. These black pants are honestly my favorite wide leg trousers to wear to work. They are from none other than Target which I love because they are affordable and comfortable. Target has many different fits in their pants that you can pick to your liking, these specific pants that I'm wearing are Fit 3 and I have been buying them for a few years now.
Tunic & Cardigan: Forever 21 // Pants: Target // Shoes: BCBG

The way I like to mix and match my outfits based on the diagram above is choosing a solid bottom and playing around with the combination on top. You can wear a printed top, as I have, with a solid cardigan or even with a blazer or sweater on top. You can also wear a printed cardigan or blazer with a solid top as I have in other posts like here. Usually if my tunic or top is long I wear a shorter cut cardigan so the tunic can still be seen. If the tunic is more on the short side, I wear a longer cardigan on top to cover up more. The main idea here is you can mix and match your tops and bottoms to your liking and comfort level. Make sure to check back for more corporate Hijabi look layouts coming soon!

Workout Wednesday: Squat Jumps

This week I introduce the squat jump.

This move targets strengthening big muscles in your thighs and rear which can help strengthen your knees and tighten your thighs. Specifically it targets the quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves. This move is a good calorie burner once you get the hang of it and are able to do fast consecutive reps. Below is a video showing how to do a squat jump:

OOTD: Metal Belt Dress

H&M's new Rock & Roll Mansion line is so fun and I wanted to buy everything when I saw it. I ended up controlling myself and just purchasing this dress for work since it was such a good deal, only $20! The wide metal belt is a great mix with the print of the dress and they've become such a trend lately.

Tuesday Ten: Top Oscar Looks

I wasn't a big fan of the Oscars this year, I'm not sure that I ever am however because I don't like waiting forever to get to the main awards I'm actually interested in which they save till the end. I do however, enjoy the red carpet portion to see what all the lovely ladies are wearing. This year, I noticed a lot of full sleeves which was nice. Here are my top ten favorite Oscar Looks that with only a few minor changes could be hijabi friendly.

What did you guys think about the fashion this year? I know I hated Anne Hathaway's dress!! What was your favorite dress?

Makeup Monday: Gel Eyeliner

I've been a big fan of pen/marker eyeliners for a very long time, but before I got into that, I used to use gel eyeliner with an angled brush for application. This months glam bag that I received included a Micabeauty gel eyeliner pot and I've been using it every day since it came. I've decided that using a gel eyeliner has a better finish look and to me the application with a brush is easier to control to get the perfect wing that I like. You can find gel eyeliner pots from most any brand at any store and usually they come with the application brush if you buy a drugstore brand which is nice.

Here is what the gel pot looks like:

Here are the many ways you can play with your eyeliner!

Style Saturday: Celeb Looks

Many celeb styles can easily be worn with a hijab. This week I'm in love with Jessica Alba. Her street style is so cute and very hijabi friendly. Here is my take on her floral pants outfit.

Featured Friday: Lujain

This week I'm featuring Lujain. Smart and beautiful is an understatement for this lovely lady. Her style includes so many different looks and her creativity is endless. Not only is she beautiful, but she's got the brains to back it up, mA. She has just finished her thesis to earn her Masters in Public Health. As you can imagine, working towards a masters can be very time consuming which is why she has had to take a break from her own blogging, but she does have a blog which you can visit here.

Workout Wednesday: The Hip Raise

This week I introduce the hip raise.

This workout targets the glutes, and is simple yet very effective. I love it because it requires no equipment and can be done anywhere at any time.

The Benefit: Targeting to strengthen the glutes can help make your belly flatter. Weak glutes cause the top of the pelvis to tilt forward which places stress on the lower back and causes the tummy to stick out, even if you don't have an ounce of fat!

How to do it: Lie on your back on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat on the ground like the first picture above. Brace your core and squeeze your glutes as you raise your hips so your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees like the second picture above. Pause for 3-5 seconds while squeezing your glutes and return to starting position and repeat.
