OOTD: Bright Reds

This petal shirt is one of my favorites because you don't see a lot of textured shirts these days. I bought it a long time ago from Forever 21 and I paired it with bright reds to make this Friday fun!

I hope you all have a great weekend! I'll be heading to California for the Fashion Fighting Famine show! I hope to see you all there!

Adjusting to College as Hijabi

I went to college and graduated from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, MD. After high school, unlike many Muslim girls and Hijabis, I moved out from my parents house and moved into what would be my new 'home' for the next four years. I was so thankful that my parents let me gain the full college experience by moving into school and I was so excited to experience this so called 'college life' everyone raved about. I applied to Loyola because of their good accounting program and after I visited the campus and saw how beautiful and home-y it was, I accepted. I didn't think too much about the fact that Loyola is a Jesuit-Catholic school and that I was probably going to be the only Hijabi on campus, I was just excited to start my college experience. Adjusting to College as a Hijabi at a predominately Caucasian school was an experience that I was thankfully able to handle with ease because of the strength of my beliefs. It however isn't that easy for other minorities and I was invited in my Junior and Senior year to speak to the incoming freshman class about my experience with diversity and adjusting to life at Loyola. Here is the video of my speech my Senior year. I hope the advice I gave helped those who were there, and can help those who watch it here. If anyone has any questions about being a Hijabi and adjusting to college or anything like that, please don't hesitate to ask!

OOTD: Tribal Pants

I'm pretty sure I'm pushing the business casual dress code for work with these tribal print pants, but I wore them anyway. I love these pants because they're comfortable and light and they were only $15!

Workout Wednesday: Jumping Lunge

This week I introduce the jumping lunge:

The jumping lunge is a great exercise because it uses the lower and upper body at the same time. It helps tone and strengthen the hamstrings, quadriceps, calves, shins, glues, abdomen and lower torso. This is a plyometric exercise which is also known as "jump training". These exercises have muscles exert maximum force in as short time as possible to help increase both speed and power. It is a contraction in a rapid or explosive way which helps condition the body.

Let me know how you like it if you try it! It's a really tough move so for beginners, start with a few and work your way up!

OOTD: My Go To Look

If you haven't already noticed, wearing dresses with pant leggings and boots is my go to comfortable look for work. This dress is now one of my favorites because it's even longer than most dresses and isn't very tight and fitting which is nice.

Tuesday Ten: Spring/Summer Nails

This spring/summer I'm going to change up the usual solid color nail polish. Pinterest has been giving me so much inspiration on different designs for nails and I can't wait to try them out! Here are top 10 of my favorite right now.

OOTD: Hippie Blues

To say I fell in love with this blazer is an understatement. It was the only one hanging on a random rack by itself with no tag on it but I headed straight to the register to buy it. I love the hippie pattern style sleeves because it's fun and different unlike every other blazer I've seen/have. It's also nice because it's a light blazer which can be worn throughout the summer. I paired it with boyfriend jeans and did a little necklace layering.

OOTD: Pencil Skirt

I love pencil skirts, and after finally finding the darkest stockings by Hue from Nordstrom Rack, I was excited to wear this below the knee pencil skirt I bought from Zara. It's hard to find below the knee pencil skirts, and I was so excited when I finally found one on sale for $15!

OOTD: A Pop of Orange

Happy Nowruz (New Year) to those who celebrate! Nowruz is the Persian/Afghan new year and falls on the first day of spring. For the second day in a row I wore neutrals with bright pants! I've been wearing my colored bottoms a lot lately and it must be since spring weather is hopefully around the corner!

Workout Wednesday: Side Plank

This week I introduce the side plank:

A few weeks ago I introduced the normal plank, and this week I want to go over the side plank. The side plank has many benefits such as strengthening the shoulders, wrists and elbow joints, increasing abdominal strength and firming and toning the body, especially in the "love handles" area.

Let me know how you like it if you try it!

OOTD: Highlighter Yellow

It's pretty common for me to wear neutral colors like black and white with a pop of color, and today I wore my favorite lime green/highlighter yelow pants.
